Священнослужители Эстонской Евангелическо-лютеранской церкви (ЭЕЛЦ) потребовали от министра внутренних дел Лаури Ляэнеметса пересмотреть решение о лишении православного митрополита Евгения вида на жительство в Эстонии.
Они отметили, что митрополита Евгения обвиняют не в каких-либо правонарушениях, а в недостаточном принятии и выражении политических взглядов правительства.
«Согласно Конституции, Эстония не имеет права предписывать церковным лидерам, какие политические или социальные взгляды они должны публиковать или, если они не запрещены законом, не должны публиковать», — напомнили священнослужители.
Они добавили, что каждый человек имеет конституционное право оставаться верным своим взглядам и убеждениям, и никто не должен быть вынужден их менять.
Кроме того, Ляэнеметс предписал церкви, действующей в соответствии с эстонским законодательством, избрать нового лидера, придерживающегося взглядов, устраивающих власти Эстонии, и тем самым активно вмешался в ее внутренние дела.
«Такое поведение характерно для авторитарных режимов. В истории Эстонии можно провести параллель с 1939 годом, когда авторитарный режим Константина Пятса заставил Евангелическо-лютеранскую церковь Эстонии избрать нового епископа, поскольку действующий епископ впал в немилость, а правительство отстранило и его, и руководящие органы церкви», — напомнили священнослужители.
По их мнению, подобные действия не относятся к области либеральной демократии и верховенства права.
«Мы глубоко встревожены перспективой того, что эстонское государство в будущем будет требовать от церквей и общин политической лояльности и верности убеждениям и взглядам стоящего у власти правительства», — заявили священнослужители.
