Таллинская легенда, про Понтуса Делагарди, замеченного на Ласнамяги, и торгующего кожей.
Вероятнее всего, героем легенды стал Понтус Делагарди, полководец рождённый в 1520 году, и успевший в жизни повоевать на стороне Франции в Пьемонте, и Шотландии на стороне Дании в Северной семилетней войне, а затем Швеции.
Родители отдали его в аббатство, откуда Делагарди сбежал при первой же возможности и отправился на войну под командованием маршала де Бриссака в 1551 году в Пьемонт, где Понтусу удалось отличиться, но в 1552 году, он возвращается на родину, потому как война приняла вялотекущий характер. Почти сразу ввязывается в следующую авантюру, отправляясь по указанию Генриха II, в Шотландию. Где кроме прочего, участвует в войне между католиками и протестантами.
После, с командой из двадцати товарищей, едет в Данию и предлагает свои услуги королю Фредерику II Датскому. Через год, в 1563 между Данией и Швецией монархи завязали изнурительную и кровавую Семилетнюю войну.
Проявив себя в достаточной степени, Делагарди довереяют командование наёмниками-ландскнехтами. Во время штурма Варбера, получает ранение в руку и попадает в плен к шведам, где встречает своего соотечественника барона Шарля де-Монре, состоявшего на службе у шведского монарха.
Барон представляет Эрику XIV, своего земляка как доблестного война и хорошего стратега. Король предлагает Делагарди службу под своими знамёнами. Получив в том же, 1565 году от Фредерика II, письмо с освобождением от обязательств перед датской короной. Поступает на службу при дворе Эрика XIV, и будучи в должности гофмаршала, принимает участие в дворцовом перевороте.
За рейд и захват в 1568 году Вадстены, где находилась королевская казна, а также за операцию по раскрытию городских ворот Стокгольма, за которыми скрывался король Эрик XIV с остатками верных ему людей, получил ленные владения.
В 1569 году, Понтус попадает в плен к датчанам, и находится там до весны 1571 года.
Новый король Швеции, Юхан III в награду за долгий плен, жалует Делагарди титул барона Экхольма, и позволение пользоваться в Швеции своим фамильным гербом.
Юхан III, отправляет Делагарди в Эстляндию, на дипломатическую работу.
Вновь доверяют управление войсками только в 1580 году. Из Выборга Понтус вышел в октябре, и 26 числа осадил Корелу, нынешний Приозёрск. Успешная осада длилась до 5 ноября, когда не выдержав артиллерийской бомбардировки, изнурительного положения, и пожара охатившего город, гарнизон сдался. Таким образом, территория Корельского уезда попала под власть Швеции.
После взятия Корелы, Делагарди двинулся к другой русской крепости Орешку, организовав её блокаду. Далее, перевёл по льду Финского залива, войско в Эстляндию, где овладел рядом городов, таких как Леалем, Везенбергом нынешним Раквере, Тольсбургом, нынешним Тоолсе, Гапсалем, нынешним Хаапсалу и другими крепостями. Последней и самой крупной в области крепостью оставалась Нарва. Она была в то время крупнейшим центром русской торговли в Европе.
В августе 1581 года, с флотом адмирала Флеминга, по Финскому заливу Делагарди прибыл к Нарве и обложил её с трёх сторон. 6 сентября Нарва была взята. Не считая гарнизона стрельцов, оккупанты уничтожили 7 тысяч мирного населения. После, маршем, Делагарди прошёл в западную Ингерманландию. Зазватил крепости Ивангородскую, Ямскую нынешний Кингисепп, и Копорье.
При этом, осада самого Орешка, длилась безуспешно, что не давало завоевать Ореховецкий уезд. Штурм предпринятый Понтусом осень 1582 года, завершился неудачей и огромными потерями среди завоевателей.
Через три года, в ноябре 1585 года, лодка, в которой Делагарди возвращался из похода в Нарву, перевернулась в переделах видимости Нарвского замка и затонула. Делагарди, облачённый в тяжёлые доспехи, ушёл на дно. Вытащили тело на следующий день.
Версий крушения три:
- Лодка Делагарди развалилась от произведённого с неё пушечного выстрела в знак победного возвращения.
- Гребцы, загляделись на устроенную в их честь встречу и наскочили на подводные препятствия. «…принесло судно ветром на пень да вынесло доску, а Немцы почали метатца в воду, и судно потонуло, и на завтра в субботу выволокли из воды Пунцу». Пунцой – именовали в те времена Понтуса русские.
- Лодку Понтуса случайно поразили встречающие, ядром салюта.
После донесения послами в Москву, о гибели Понтуса, был получен ответ: «Писали вы нам, что Пунтус Делагарди утонул; сделалось это божиим милосердием и великого чудотворца Николы милостию».
Понтус Делагарди был похоронен в Домском соборе Ревеля, рядом со своей супругой умершей при родах в 1583 году.
Не смотря на жестокость к врагам, и внутреннюю алчность, сведений о том, что Понтус Делагарди сдирал с жертв кожу, авторам проекта «Переулки. Таллин», отыскать не удалось.
